Psychotherapy aims in alleviate psychological and emotional distress by helping the patient gain an insight into their behaviour, understand what helps them feel positive and what not, as well as accepting their strong and weak points. If people can identify their feelings and ways of thinking they become better at coping with difficult situations. The aim of psychotherapy is to help the person deal with the symptoms that are causing him distress by going to the roots of the problem, understanding it, learning to accept it and finding ways to move on.
There are three types of Psychotherapy:
- Personal Psychotherapy:
Wherein, the client gets the full attention of the therapist. Through this process of attentive empathic listening, congruence and unconditional positive regard from the therapist, the client can undergo the journey of resolving his personal issues.
- Couple/ Marriage Counseling
Wherein, the couple can meet the therapist in couple sessions (primarily) and in personal sessions alternatively when this is needed. With the facilitation of the therapist, the couple can learn to communicate more effectively with each other and give way to their couple relationship to be assisted in growing or if this cannot be done, dissolve in a positive manner.
- Group Psychotherapy:
Group therapy is a form of psychosocial treatment where a small group of patients with similar problems meet regularly to talk, interact, and discuss problems with each other and the group facilitator (therapist).
Group therapy attempts to give individuals a safe and comfortable environment where they can work out practical and emotional issues. Through this process, patients gain insight into their own thoughts and behavior, and offer suggestions and support to others.
